Some customers wonder why we insist on providing the powder in its original dry form and not pre-mix the powder in a paint form.

The answer is simple, the powder is concentrated, dry, and in its most secure form. This allows the customer to mix the paint themselves in a concentration best for that application. In the dry form is will make 2 to 3 times the amount of paint when mixed correctly.

How do I apply the product?

Other products that may be pre-mixed often will dry and become useless, Luma Nocturna MMHG-5B is provided as a dry powdered pigment to allow the customer to find an adhesive product suitable for his application a wide range of uses from firearm sights to fishing lures.

Warning: this pigment is not compatible with water-based mediums, and all paint or glues used should be void of ultraviolet filters and opaque pigments.

Use a three layer application for optimum performance. If your pistol, shotgun or rifle has a clean gloss white paint on the sights, then you can leave it there and move on to the glow layer instructions.

  1. Remove all materials that will resist paint/epoxy from the site area, clean thoroughly and allow to dry.
  2. Add a base layer of bright reflective high-gloss paint, white works best. Inexpensive nail polish, appliance touch-up, and automotive paints can be used, but any solvent based or epoxy will work. Allow the paint to dry between every layer.
  3. Add a layer or more of MMHG-5B pigment mixed with paint or epoxy. Make sure the pigment load is from 25 to 40%, if mixing by eye use just a bit less than half of pigment to the adhesive or paint.
  4. Coat with a sealer layer of clear solvent-based paint without any UV filtering additives. Use a clear coat that is resistant to gun cleaning solutions.

Properly adhered, the glow properties should last over 10 years with only nominal degradation.

How does it work?

Phosphorescence is a process in which energy absorbed by a substance is released relatively slowly in the form of light. This is in some cases the mechanism used for "glow-in-the -dark" materials which are "charged" by exposure to light. Unlike the relatively swift reactions in a common fluorescent tube, phosphorescent materials used for these materials absorb the energy and "store" it for a longer time as the processes required to re-emit the light occur less often.

Common pigments used in phosphorescent materials include first generation copper zinc sulfide and second generation strontium aluminate compounds. First generation pigment use dates back to before the 1930s.

The development in the 1990’s of several types of second generation pigments, with a luminance approximately ten times greater than first generation products, has relegated most first generation products to the inexpensive novelty category.

Second generation pigments are expensive (over 10 times the cost) but the brightness and longevity make the use of second generation pigments popular in the safety, sporting and watchmaking industries.
Luma Nocturna MMHG-5B is the brightest and longest return phosphorescent luminescence pigment among the second generation pigments available.

Luma Nocturna Pigment is a powder with high phosphorescent luminescence is a great way to improve night time visibility of firearm sights.

Luma Nocturna Pigment is pure MMHG-5B powder the brightest glowing second generation pigment available. After a full charge the luminescence is ten times the old first generation based phosphorescent pigments.

Glowing activation can be made by a wide range of lighting with best results from UV or near UV lights. Greater luminescence will be obvious and the powder will glow with longer activation time. This glowing pigment is free of hazardous and radioactive substances.

Pigment will retain its luminescence indefinitely regardless of use, it can be recharged millions of times.
